The Collingwood Group Conference Call Series
A January 20, 2012 article that appeared in Housing Wire, entitled “FHA toughens rules, penalties for mortgage lenders”, discussed how the FHA is strengthening its standards for lenders that insure mortgages on behalf of FHA and addressed the rule, initially proposed in October 2010 and finalized on Friday, January 20, 2012, which will make it harder for lenders to get approval for FHA insured mortgages without first submitting documents to the agency and putting lenders on the hook for indemnification if a loan defaults within five years of obligation. The article quoted FHA Commissioner Carol Galante, who said that “the FHA will continue to strike a balance between managing its risk and continuing to provide support to a still struggling housing market.”
